THE COST OF AMATEUR BASEBALL (PART II)

Sport Management: Set of activities and means necessary for a correct use of sport spaces with the purpose of allowing its users to develop their activities in the best possible conditions, taking the measures recommended with economic criteria, understanding it, as the rational use of available resources to achieve maximum results.

Took from the blog: “Administración Deportiva.”

As we have already stated in the first part, amateur sport differs from the professional, in whom the first one does not produce profits, that is to say that the possible revenues surplus that could produce are not distribute among managers of the organization as if they are profits earned. The rest, from a financial standpoint, accounting and administrative structures are based on the principles and standards of accounting and administration applicable to them.

The start of our second note on the subject, lead us to discuss an aspect that everybody talk behind the scenes but not in public, despite of being a core element in the amateur sport activity, limiting to utter the phrase “is that this is a non-profit activity” as if that would solve the basic issue of our subject: How do you fund amateur sport? The way we answer to this question is by our conception of the activity, that is to say that we consider it a weekend activity for boys to not stay teasing at home, keeping them busy during the week and not of idle playing video games or watching TV or if we understand it as an activity that is part of the education of children and youth, as well as formal education, is the basic level of training for those who have skills and they like the discipline,  we consider it a desire to continue to develop as professional athletes. That is, the boy would need to approve primary, secondary and make a “career” in amateur sport, reaching the youth level to choose what to do: engineer, doctor, educator, artist, etc. or professional athlete. But let’s just leave this aspect of discussion to develop in another time. We mentioned it for now to pose what will be one of the elements of the operating cost of amateur sport that we said nobody wants to talk in public, the fees of the managers or “owners” of teams, league executives, regional associations and National Federations.
